Our mission is to make it easy to read and understand the Qur’an. This surah contains many important social and legal rulings concerning interfaith marriage with people of the book, lawful foods (such as banning of intoxicants like alcohol), pilgrimage, gambling, and other rituals. 112-115 which is where the Surah takes it’s name, “The Table Spread with Food”. The surah reportedly has one of the last verses that were revealed to the Prophet (ﷺ), “This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion” (5:3) The surah mentions the famous dinner Isa (عليه السلام) had with his apostles. “O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, stone alters, and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful.”
